Sitting areas can be as simple as a rustic bench off a meandering pathway to an elaborate multi-level deck with steps, landings and railings.
Existing mature trees are usually an invaluable asset to the garden. This welcoming sitting area was photographed the day we completed its construction.

Sitting areas are usually most effective close to the house, but in this instance the view, morning sun, and proximity to the garden studio justify it’s placement further away.

Designers are rethinking the idea that front yards are just “for show”. Many (Kate included) are reclaiming the front yard as a space to connect with the neighbors. This sitting area on a corner lot will become more private as the plants grow.
